CPU Storage

by LeAnn Pashina on 2008-10-24 16:44:35 - Email This
Keep your computer hard drive running smoothly like it should.  Did you know that placing your CPU on the floor is a great place for it to collect dust and dirt and cause problems with the performance?  Sometimes they can overheat because they can't cool properly due to poor or no air circulation.  One easy fix is to either have your CPU sit on a stand or mount it below your worksurface.  There are many available. I like the units that install underneath your worksurface which keeps it out of the way, and it is on a track so you can pull it out when you need to access it and it also keeps it up off the floor and away from dirt.  This will also help with air circulation because it will be hanging from your work surface so the unit will stay at the temperature it is suppose to.  If security is your concern, locking devices are available to make it uneasy to remove unless you have the right key.  I like them as well for cord management because they are underneath your desk, you can easily hide the wires.  Take a look at what is available, or call us for questions.

Hands-Free

by LeAnn Pashina on 2008-10-03 16:46:12 - Email This

Sometimes you just need an extra hand to open that lid on the trash can, either your hands are full of trash or they are dirty and you don't want to add to the dirt on the unit.  The answer - Hands free receptacle. Infrared sensors detect motion of hand or object to provide an application that is hassle free. No buttons to push or pedals to step on. Lid closes automatically after three seconds of use. Insures advanced odor, hygiene and infection control. Constructed of Stainless Steel.

It may seem like a gimick at first, it is a bit fun to play with at first, but I have found it very useful in the long run.  We all know that germs are bound to live around trash, so how nice to have one that the lid will open for you when it detects you near, then simply close the lid again after three seconds - how nice!

Organizing your files

by LeAnn Pashina on 2008-08-15 13:53:23 - Email This
filingThe test of a good filing system is being able to find something when you need it, regardless of how you choose to organize it. However, there are two basic approaches to setting up a filing system:

·         Establish categories for like items by subject

·         Establish an index based system with files identified numerically by item (e.g., File 1=Document 1)

You can choose the method that makes the most intuitive sense to you.  People who have trouble categorizing may feel more comfortable with the indexing approach.  Regardless of which type of system you choose, if you feel overwhelmed about where to start, pick a group of papers in any pile.  It does not matter where you start…..you just need to start with a manageable subset of paper.

Desktop Dozen

Whether you've moved from "filer" to "piler" in recent years or have noticed your workspace slowly closing in on you, clutter may prove more damaging in your career than you realize.  An excess of "stuff" in the office depletes your energy, hinders productivity, and portrays a negative image to clients and/or supervisors.  Now that it is the beginning of the year, what better time to start the year fresh with some of these simple ideas.  A clutter cure is readily available and within your reach.  Here are 12 places you can start with your clutter.

1. Obvious trash - this might include anything from food wrappers to broken, rotten or moldy items.

2. Outdated or expired materials - travel brochures, advertisements, propaganda, coupons, etc.  If you can find it elsewhere, make a note of it in your planner or computer and throw away the item.

3. Unnecessary duplicates - whether multiple copies of the same form or two computers when only one is needed, decide where you have duplication and pare down.

4. Junk mail - prevent it if possible by signing up for the opt-out-programs.

5. Rough drafts or completed projects - when the project is complete and you no longer need the drafts, throw them or recycle them.

6. Useless souvenirs and conference giveaways - Just because it is free doesn't mean you have to keep it!

7. Anything empty, unused or unknown - either fill it, use it, seek out its purpose, or get rid of it.

8. Items you dislike and do not need - we often display items because we think we "should".  If you don't need it, you have the right to handle it as you please.

9. Things you do not use on a daily basis - In general, the items on our desktops will only include those things we use on a daily basis - computer, telephone, planner, etc.

10. Anything in excess - rather than 20 pens of questionable functionality stuffed in a canister - just keep 3 or 4 that work.  Seek out excess in whatever form and take steps to eliminate it.

11. Materials that evoke negative or unresolved feelings - these items don't need to surround you and it is the new year and you are now starting new.  Throw those items which leave you with ill feelings.

12. Items that do not help you pursue your purpose - Get rid of any items not helping you carry out your mission.  You never know, they might be just the items to help others live their purposes!

Hope some of these ideas work for you, and take a look at some of the products we offer to help assist with your organizational needs.
